      Introduced SSD (Systematic Structured Development) - Junior

SSD (junior/youth) was created and designed as a fixed set of principles, concepts, and framework for the development of young footballers age 5 - 21 - incorporating a mixture of both the traditional British and modern continental style coaching techniques. Today the SSD system is used by many countries throughout the world as part of their development process.




1995
Football Development Research

      Published The Grass Roots Report (UK)

A detailed report covering every aspect of young player development in the UK from 1965 to 1995 and drawing direct comparisons with our continental counterparts. In conclusion, several recommendations were put forward based around the SSD layout and also including the introduction of a new academy development programme.
In 1998 the English Academy Scheme was introduced.
An updated version of this report, Kicking Into the Future, was published in 2010, which outlined a number of continued deficiencies within the English development process.

Football Development Schools

      Soccer Kids UK

The first private SSD football school was opened at the University of Sheffield in 1996 and quickly became the largest and most successful development programme in the UK. From this base several other schools were later opened but eventually sold to professional club academies.

Based on the success of the Grass Roots Report and SSD format, I became an independent adviser to several top clubs on the structuring of their new youth academies.

A new SSD programme specifically based around the development of senior players and teams - an insight into new modern and progressive continental style coaching techniques and training programmes.
Today, Coaching Tools (SSD) forms the main base for senior player development
